Downgrade iPhone 4 iOS 5 Baseband 4 11 08 to 4 10 01 to Unlock with Gevey Turbo SIM

UPDATE #3, 18 October 2011, 7.18PM (+8 GMT): One reader just commented that he was able to do downgrade, but I’m not sure if he did it much earlier. It’s still worth trying, though. I responded to his comment and waiting for confirmation.

Did you blindly update to iOS 5 without realizing the consequences that it will also update your baseband to 4.11.08 that can’t be unlocked with your Turbo SIM? Apple had stopped signing iOS 4.3.5 on October 17, 2011.
Apple is still signing iOS 4.3.5, which means you can still downgrade to this iOS version. It has baseband 4.10.01 that can be unlocked with Gevey Blue Turbo SIM.
Here are the steps:
1. Download and install iTunes 10.4 or earlier. You will need to remove iTunes 10.5 first.
2. Download iOS 4.3.5 IPSW for iPhone 4 from Apple.
3. Put your device into DFU mode (search a tutorial on YouTube).
4. Connect to iTunes and it will say that your device is in recovery mode and needs to be restored.
5. Go ahead and click shift+restore (Windows) or option+restore (Mac). Select the IPSW you just downloaded.
6. iTunes will verify with Apple server and begins restoring your device. Once completed you will need the official SIM card to activate it. You can use other tools such as TinyUmbrella to confirm that you now have baseband 4.10.01.
7. Now download custom iOS 5 from here. Reinstall iTunes 10.5 in the meantime.
8. Download latest redsn0w from the Dev Team’s website or from here. Start redsn0w, go to Extras > Pwned DFU. This allows your iPhone to accept custom firmware. If you don’t do this, you will get error 1604, 1600 etc.
9. Connect your iPhone to your computer.
10. Click shift+restore (Windows) or option+restore (Mac) and select the custom iOS 5 IPSW you just downloaded.
This time your baseband will be preserved while running on iOS 5 and you can unlock it with Gevey Blue Turbo SIM.
Again – do it now because once Apple stops signing iOS 4.3.5, you will be stuck forever!

WARNING, Starting week 127 Apple has started using a NEW BASEBAND CHIP made by TOSHIBA. If you try flashing 6.15 Ipad baseband it totally erases the chip with the unwanted side effect of erasing imei, bt, wifi. As far as is known this only effects the 8gig GS. What to look for? Phone 4 Baseband Chip Downgrade from 4 11 08 to 4 10 01 Service Now Available
I am not selling this, But providing information to the interested persons of these options they can do themselves or pay for someone to do.
Baseband downgrade from 4.11.08 to 4.10.01 via chip replacement is now possible on iPhone 4.
My team and I would like to present sort of a good news for those who are currently stuck on baseband 4.11.08 as we managed to downgrade an iPhone 4′s baseband from 4.11.08 to 4.10.01 on 22 October, 2011.
However, it’s still now possible to downgrade to 1.59.00 to make it unlockable with ultrasn0w.
It’s similar to our baseband chip replacement service for 3G and 3GS, but this method requires two different chips to be replaced – the Infineon X-GOLD 618 processor chip and the 128MB NOR flash chip.
Once your iPhone 4 baseband has been downgraded to 4.10.01, you can then unlock it with a Turbo SIM.
There are a few tiny setbacks with this method – your iPhone serial number and IMEI will change. Step 1: Extract and run Sn0wbreeze-v2.8b8.zip (Windows Vista or Windows7 users must start the application in Administrator mode. To do so, right click mouse button on the icon and selecting “Run as administrator”Step 2: Connect your iPhone 4, 3GS or iPod Touch to your PC via USB.
Step 3: Click “Browse” button and select iOS 5.0 GM firmware (IPSW) which you downloaded earlier, you can also drag and drop .IPSW file on the given area.Step 4: Sn0wbreeze will automatically verify the .ipsw file and the device which is required to be jailbroken. Sn0wbreeze will check the firmware if it is correct. Once the iOS 5 IPSW is verified, click the blue arrow button to continue.

Restore iOS 5.0 Custom Firmware Using iTunes
Start iTunes, click on your iOS device icon from the sidebar in iTunes. Now press and hold Left “Shift” button on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update” or “Check for Update”) button in iTunes and then release this button.Select the pre-jailbroken custom IPSW that was created (must be on your desktop) and click the Choose button.
Now relax and wait iTunes will do the rest for you. iPhone will restart on completion of firmware installation.
Booting In Tethered Mode:
Step 1: Open iBooty 5.0 folder which was created on your desktop and run iBooty 5.0
Step 2: Select your device and follow the instruction on screen to boot in tethered mode.

RedSn0w 0 9 14b1 released with the ability to downgrade baseband 06 15
As expected, the Dev Team has released RedSn0w 0.9.14b1 tonight. The new version of the jailbreak tool features the highly-anticipated ability to downgrade the baseband on the iPhone 3G(S).
Unlocked 3G(S) users stuck on baseband 06.15 can now downgrade to 05.13.04. This will restore GPS functionality, as well as allow you to use stock IPSWs again. Full details after the break…
From the Dev Team’s release notes:
“The iPhone Dev Team is happy to announce a baseband downgrade option in redsn0w for those who are using the iPad’s o6.15 baseband on the iPhone3G or iPhone 3GS.There you have it!
Typically you’d have the 06.15 baseband if you unlock with ultrasn0w but updated your iPhone baseband past 05.13.04. With this new capability, you can now downgrade specifically from 06.15 to 05.13.04 (even if you never had 05.13.04 on that device before). This gives you the best of both worlds: ultrasn0w compatibility and a normal iPhone baseband with full GPS and the ability to use stock IPSWs again.
Here are the steps:
1. Use the “Extras=>Select IPSW” button in redsn0w to tell it which firmware version you have installed (new-bootrom 3GS users can usually skip this step but it doesn’t hurt for them to do it too).
2. Do a controlled shutdown of your iPhone (“slide to power off”). This step is very important to avoid mount problems when the ramdisk is running!
3. Go back to the first screen and click “Jailbreak”. Enable the “Downgrade from iPad baseband” checkbox, disable Cydia if you already have it installed, and click Next to proceed through the normal DFU ramdisk steps.
After the ramdisk gets launched and you see the Pwnapple running on your iPhone, you’ll eventually get to the “Flashing Baseband” step. THIS STEP TAKES A VERY LONG TIME to complete and there won’t be any feedback while it’s running. Please just let it be for the next 3-8 minutes! When the ramdisk has done its job it will reboot the phone on its own.
For those who are wondering if you can update your 3G or 3GS to 06.15 solely for the purposes of downgrading to 05.13.04, the answer is “yes” for 3G owners, and “maybe” for 3GS owners. The iPad is not compatible with 3GS units manufactured week 34 of 2011 or later. If you have an iPhone 3GS and if digits 3-5 of its Serial Number are 134 or later (xx134…), then you should NOT try to install the 06.15 baseband on your 3GS! It will brick your radio, preventing both the downgrade from working and normal iPhone software from using it as a phone! Be warned!”

Redsn0w 0 9 14b2 Released with improved iPhone 3G 3GS 06 15 00 Baseband Downgrade
Today, the popular Dev Team member known as Musclenerd introduced the release of the most recent version of Redsn0w — Redsn0w 0.9.14 beta 2.
Users having a downgraded iPhone 3 / 3GS from 06.15.00 to 05.13.04 or lower baseband have the ability to unlock their gadgets with latest Ultrasn0w and capability to use their GPS functionality.Downloads
The very first is improved baseband 06.15.00 downgrading solution, and really should now include most iPhone 3G / iPhone 3GS devices. Keep in mind that any person having an iPhone 3GS that has been produced right after early 2011 — need to stay away from the 06.15.00 baseband. This is a genuine Infineon X-Gold 608 baseband chip which is designed for iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPad 1 (FYI – that’s why iPad’s baseband 6.15.00 can be implanted into the iPhone).

The baseband chip is pre-programmed with baseband version 5.13.04 which can be unlocked using ultrasn0w.

What you need:
Steps:
1. Disassemble your iPhone and remove the logic board. See Google video here.
2. Remove the EMI shield and take note of the baseband chip marked ‘X.’
3. Cover the surrounding area of the mainboard and use a hot air gun to melt the solder that holds the chip. Ideally, the temperature should be around 290 degree C. Check out some YouTube videos here.
4. Gently remove the baseband chip from the logic board.
5. Clean up any residue left on the logic board with a soldering gun and rub the area with a piece of cotton dabbed with alcohol.
6. A close-up view of the cleaned area of the logic board.
7. Now you are ready to mount the new baseband chip. See YouTube video here for recommended ways to do it.
8. Once you have mounted the chip, wait for at least half an hour before reassembling your iPhone.
9. Turn on your iPhone and check that you now have an older baseband 5.13.04.
10. Jailbreak your iPhone if you haven’t done so and unlock it with ultrasn0w. You now have an unlocked iPhone and your GPS and other issues should be resolved.
Note: This method does not make your iPhone factory-unlocked. You still have to be careful not to update it directly via iTunes.
If you are stuck on baseband 5.14.02, 5.15.04 or 5.16.02 which presently cannot be unlocked by ultrasn0w, you can fix it by replacing the baseband chip. Fix your GPS issue if you have baseband 6.15.00 and increase the resale value of your phone with a baseband that can be unlocked with ultrasn0w.

If you are familiar with DIY electronics repairs and do not mind destroying your iPhone, you can refer to the rough guide below on how to replace your baseband chip pre-programmed with baseband 5.13.04 (or lower) which can be unlocked using ultrasn0w 1.2. This method will fix your iPhone’s GPS issue (baseband 6.15.00).What you need:
- Hot air gun
- Solder paste
- Soldering iron
- Tweezers
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Pre-programmed replacement baseband chip (you can purchase this from us)
- Good lighting, table etc.
- Patience
Steps:
1. Disassemble your iPhone and remove the logic board. See Google video here.
2. Remove the EMI shield and take note of the baseband chip marked ‘X.’
5. Clean up any residue left on the logic board with a soldering gun and rub the area with a piece of cotton dabbed with alcohol.

7. Now you are ready to mount the new baseband chip. See YouTube video here for recommended ways to do it.
8. Once you have mounted the chip, wait for at least half an hour before reassembling your iPhone.
9. Turn on your iPhone and check that you now have an older baseband 5.13.04.
10. Jailbreak your iPhone if you haven’t done so and unlock it with ultrasn0w. You now have an unlocked iPhone and your GPS and other issues should be resolved.
Note: This method does not make your iPhone factory-unlocked. You still have to be careful not to update it directly via iTunes.
